Former Atty General: Obama could be impeached over gun control executive orders

Meese1GOP Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) isn’t the only one who says Obama should be impeached if he implements gun control through executive orders.

On Monday, former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese said that Obama could be impeached if he attempts to override the Second Amendment through executive orders.

Meese explained that executive orders are intended only for agencies that fall directly under the executive branch.

But, he said, “to impose burdens or regulations that affect society generally, he would have to have Congressional authorization.”

Newsmax said:

“It would not be legal. It would not be constitutional,” Meese, who served under President Ronald Reagan, tells Newsmax. “And, indeed, if he tried to override the Second Amendment in any way, I believe it would be an impeachable offense.”

“It would be up to the Congress to take action, such as looking in to it to see if, in fact, he has really tried to override the Constitution itself,” he added.
