Video: Susan Rice claims Bowe Bergdahl served ‘with honor and distinction’

Susan RiceAccording to all reports, Bowe Bergdahl walked out of his camp in June 2009, three days after expressing his hatred for America in an email to his parents.  Nevertheless, national security adviser Susan Rice told ABC News he “served with honor and distinction.”

“Sergeant Bergdahl wasn’t simply a hostage; he was an American prisoner of war captured on the battlefield,” she maintained.

Really?

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

She wasn’t finished.

“He is going to be safely reunited with his family. He served the United States with honor and distinction. And we’ll have the opportunity eventually to learn what has transpired in the past years, but what’s most important now is his health and well being, that he have the opportunity to recover in peace and security and be reunited with his family. Which is why this is such a joyous day,” she said.

Video of her comments can be seen below:

Granted, it is a good day for his parents, who no doubt are happy to see their son safe, but there’s a lot of explaining that needs to be done, at the very least.

According to all reports, Bergdahl wasn’t “captured” as Rice claims — he walked away.  Remember, this is the same Susan Rice who blamed Benghazi on an obscure YouTube video.

Bill Kristol noted Monday:

“There’s a lot of reporting that he wasn’t taken in battle. He seems to have deserted or at least gone AWOL. He may have cooperated with the enemy after they captured him. Soldiers have died trying to find him. His own platoon and his own battalion, company and battalion, seem to have come under a lot more attacks after he was taken. The degree of anger amongst soldiers, on email and on listservs, is unbelievable. And that needs to be taken seriously.

“Those are the people who fought, who fought in the same company in some cases, and who feel like they sacrificed to get this guy back who may have behaved at best irresponsibly and at worst worse. And we need to have honesty about that. There was a big Army investigation–what did Susan Rice know? What did President Obama know about the investigation about Bergdahl?

“It’s one thing to trade terrorists for a real POW, someone who was taken on the battlefield fighting honorably for our country. It’s another thing to trade away 5 high-ranking terrorists to someone who walked away.”

And don’t forget, two of those traded for Bergdahl are wanted by the UN for war crimes.

Video of Kristol’s comments can be seen below.

And to add insult to injury, Bergdahl is set to be promoted to Staff Sergeant.  Only in Obama’s America can a soldier walk away as a Private First Class after expressing hate for America, stay with the Taliban for five years and be promoted to SSgt.

By the way, I served 10 years in the United States Marine Corps, and I see nothing in what Bergdahl did that can be called honorable.  In my day, he wouldn’t get promoted — he’d have been tossed in the brig.
