Video captures military helicopters firing machine guns over downtown Miami in drill

chopperovermiami2A video posted at YouTube on Saturday shows a military helicopter firing a machine gun while flying over a freeway going through downtown Miami.

It’s not an invasion, and there are no reports of Obama sending the military to silence Rush Limbaugh, who, by the way, lives in Florida.  It’s all part of a drill, the Miami Herald said:

Miami-Dade police sent out a warning Monday that multiple police agencies would be providing support for a joint military training exercise somewhere over Miami and elsewhere in the county. The exercise will include the use of military helicopters.

When and where will this happen? Police didn’t say.

The police statement said the training locations and times “were carefully selected to minimize negatively impacting the citizens of the City of Miami/Miami-Dade County and their daily routines.”

A photographer from Atlanta who was working in the area recorded two military helicopters flying above a freeway.  If you listen closely, you can hear a machine gun being fired.

A local news report said it was just blanks, so there was nothing to worry about.

Speaking as a veteran of ten years, though, I cannot help but be concerned.  Never in my entire decade of service did we ever run drills like this in such a highly populated metropolitan area.  What were they practicing and why?

I’m also no conspiracy theorist, but I cannot help but find this a bit, well, disturbing.

Consider the billion rounds of hollow-point ammo the administration has purchased, the 7,000 “personal defense weapons” that look just like AR-15’s the DHS wants, and reports that the administration wants officers willing to fire on the American people.

Maybe they are practicing for “overseas contingency operations,” but still, this video is a bit scary.
